Dr. Mimi is not only a board certified adult psychiatrist; she is also an emotional wellness expert and stress management strategist. With several years of experience in the mental health field, Dr. Mimi coaches each client with the goals of enhancing their inner beauty.
Dr. Mimi is passionate about women’s issues and how stress can affect our inner and outer beauty. She is coined “Your Favorite Psychiatrist.” She believes in cosmetic psychiatry---enhancing one’s inner beauty just as women enhance their outer appearance. Just as women go to the salon and have wellness visits with their primary care doctor, Dr. Mimi believes the same emphasis needs to be place on emotional well being and the inner beauty. She encourages each client to become the best “You” holistically, which includes emotional and physical health.
Dr. Mimi first attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN where she earned her degree in chemistry. She continued to pursue her passion in medicine at the Ohio University College of Medicine. After receiving her doctorate, Dr. Mimi completed her Psychiatry Residency at The Cleveland Clinic. She later also received additional education and training at Case Western Reserve University Public and Community Psychiatry Fellowship Program.
Dr. Mimi graduated as chief resident at her Residency Program as well as was selected to complete additional psychiatry fellowship. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, one of the 24 boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties. This means Dr. Mimi stays up to date and relevant for her clients, using the latest therapy modalities and treatments.
Being a professional woman can come with the stigma of being bossy, busy, and the other B-word. In 2013, I was all three with no self awareness. I began writing this book as part of my therapy. It started as my way to cope with the life stressors I was going through at that time.
I felt it necessary to explore how I too often would allow my emotions to get the best of me while going through life transitions. I would allow inevitable life transitions (a new career, marriage, having a baby, and moving, for example) to stress me to the point where I became emotionally unattractive.
It wasn't until I asked for help, looked hard at the behaviors that were hurting me and how I was hurting others, and decided to fix them that things began to change. I intentionally chose to live at my full capacity by maintaining a balance of inner and outer beauty.
My desire for this book is to not only be a resource for women to use in navigating through past and present experiences, but to also normalize the struggle of balancing career, purpose, family, and inner and outer beauty.
